Healthy Relationships

Relationships

A relationship is any kind of connection between people, both intimate and platonic. Typically, when people talk about being in a relationship, they are referring to a romantic and/or sexual relationship with a significant other that involves emotional and physical intimacy, some degree of ongoing commitment and monogamy. However, relationships can take on many different forms, ranging from casual dating to ethical nonmonogamy. People also have a variety of different relationships in their lives, including family, friendships and coworker relationships.

Supporting Each Other’s Personal Growth

Healthy relationships can help you become a better version of yourself by offering supportive feedback and accountability. In addition, they may sometimes challenge your comfort zone by encouraging you to take risks or pursue new experiences. Moreover, they can offer positive role models that show you how to face adversity with resilience and perseverance.

Sharing Goals

Having shared goals can bring you and your partner closer together, especially if those goals involve family-building or building a life together. In fact, when couples have common goals, they tend to experience less stress and anxiety. This is likely due to a lower production of cortisol, a hormone that promotes psychological stress.

However, it is important to remember that not all goals are a good fit for every couple. Ultimately, it is up to each person to decide what they can accept and what they cannot. If you find that your partner’s goals and values do not align with your own, it is important to communicate your concerns in a respectful way and determine whether the relationship can continue.
