Entertaiment is a large industry in modern society that encompasses publishing, music, film and video games. It can be a positive force that stimulates learning, but it can also lead to harmful and demeaning effects if not controlled and regulated properly. What is considered entertainment by one person may be viewed as work or something below human dignity by another, because taste and opinion are highly subjective. The word “entertainment” derives from the medieval Latin intertenere, which means to hold inside. The suffix ment indicates that the idea is to be sustained or continued. — T E News, Fall 2011.
