What Are Automobiles?

Automobiles

Automobiles are vehicles powered by an internal combustion engine, usually gasoline (petrol) but sometimes diesel or kerosene, which uses a fuel to explode inside a cylinder, pushing down and turning the wheels. Most cars use a transmission, which converts the power from the engine into speed and direction to move the car forward or backward.

THE BENEFITS OF CARS

An automobile allows you to travel long distances with ease and flexibility. This opens up more job opportunities, more locations to live in relation to work, and a greater social circle for you to connect with friends and family. It also gives you the ability to travel on leisure activities like shopping, movies and restaurants that you would be unable to do without a car.

It is one of the most widely used forms of transport in the world and there are many different kinds of cars to choose from. There are a few large manufacturers that dominate the market. The biggest is currently Ford Motor Company and then Toyota followed by General Motors and Volkswagen.

The first modern automobiles were developed in the late 1800s. Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built a steam-powered road vehicle and the first practical, commercial automobile was introduced by German inventor Carl Benz in 1886. Two American women, Nell Richardson and Alice Burke drove across the country in 1916 to advocate for the women’s right to vote, decorating their car with “votes for women” banners. During this time, it was still pretty rare to see women driving, but they took a big risk and showed their strength and independence by doing so.
