What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment

Entertaiment is the activity of engaging in leisure activities for enjoyment, recreation, and edification. It can include anything from listening to music and attending concerts, reading books, and playing video games to sports, dance performances, and comedy shows. In the visual arts, it can include visiting museums and exhibitions or creating art.

The word entertainment comes from Middle English entretenement, a compound of the prefix inter- “between” and the suffix tenere (“to hold inside”), on the root ten of the Indo-European word for stretch, referring to the ability to hold something in place (the body, ideas, opinions). Its sense of “gratify, amuse” is 1620s.
